The Lime Camino
Viborg has its own Camino — The Lime Camino — named after the area's two historic limestone mines. This beautiful hiking route stretches approximately 30 kilometres, taking you past both limestone mines and further into the landscape, through bogs and across Kongenshus Heath. The route is clearly marked with white arrows and blue signs featuring a bat symbol.
Along the Lime Camino, you will experience the region's impressive limestone deposits, visit the mines that are home to thousands of bats, and discover the area's history of peat cutting — a tradition that has shaped the local culture for centuries. The trail also tells the story of heathland cultivation and the "Potato Germans" who settled on the Alheden heath in the 18th century.
You can start your journey along the Lime Camino in either Stoholm or Skelhøje, both of which are easily accessible from nearby towns.
